After nine long months, that moment finally came. I was going home.
Most people wouldn’t believe how much can change in just nine months - your mindset, your life, your relationships, your perspective on almost everything. But I lived it. I felt it.
The world was still under heavy restrictions, but I gathered all the necessary documents, prepared handovers for our local UAE projects, and headed for the airport.
The route was through Frankfurt. I boarded the Etihad flight out of Abu Dhabi. And then, as I waited at the next gate, I saw the Croatia Airlines plane pulling in. That’s when I broke down. I just started crying. After everything, in just a few hours, I’d be home.
But when I arrived… it felt strange. The bed, the house, even the people. Everything looked familiar, but nothing felt the same. I was only going to stay for two weeks, so I tried to make the most of it. Finally eating my mum’s food, seeing close friends and loved ones. Just having a little bit of freedom again.
People who know me well already know this - I’ve always put my work first. Even above my health. And while I’m still working on that, at least now… I think about it more.
